What is a parallel reasoning question asking you to do?
See what logical method is being deployed in the stimulus. The topic of the stimulus and the order of presentation of the premises and the conclusion DO NOT NEED to be paralleled.
Parallel Reasoning Elemental Attack
1- Parallel the reasoning: Conditional, causal, analogy etc. 2- Parallel the conclusion: Double the LOGICAL FORCE of the conclusion (EX: absolute = absolute). 3- Parallel the premises 4- Parallel the validity of the argument: match flaw w/ flaw, and vice versa. 5- Parallel the abstract nature: test of abstraction
Parallel reasoning Q stems
"pattern of reasoning" "is most similar in its logical features"
Most important feature of dissecting a parallel reasoning Q
WHAT IS THE MOST OBVIOUS LOGICAL device being used in the stimulus
Parallel flaw Qs: Difference between parallel flaw and parallel reasoning / Similarity between parallel flaw and flaw in the reasoning
Difference: Reasoning is either explicitly said to be flawed, or, if not explicit, is flawed/ may be flawed nonetheless. Similarity: Same flaws as in flaw in the reasoning Qs
Comparative Reading Qs: What to look for
Main point, attitude, tone, passage structure. IDENTIFY the main point of each and then relate those points to each other.
