Half-Life
The time required for half of the radioactive atoms in a sample to decay.
Radioactive Isotope
An unstable isotope that decays over time, emitting radiation.
Tritium
A radioactive isotope of hydrogen used for age verification.
Carbon-14 Dating
A method used to date organic materials by measuring the decay of carbon-14.
Carbon-12
A stable isotope of carbon that makes up the majority of carbon found in nature.
Decay Rate
The rate at which a radioactive isotope loses its radioactivity, measured in decays per second.
Artificial Transmutation
The process of changing one element into another through nuclear reactions.
Half-Life of Iodine-131
The period of 8.1 days during which half of iodine-131 in a patient will decay.
Carbon Dioxide (14CO2)
A form of carbon dioxide that contains the radioactive isotope carbon-14.
