Intrinsic- self motivated
Extrinsic- need to be motivated by others/things
Importance of employee motivation in a business
Easier to attract employees, retaining employees, higher labour productivity
Explain Herzberg’s Theory
2 factors:
Motivators - factors that would give employees job satisfaction
Eg. Achieving aims, chance of promotion, responsibility, interesting work, recognition, personal development
Hygiene factors - can leave workers dissatisfied if insufficient
Pay, working conditions, job security, quality of supervision, staff relationships, company policy
Name the levels on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and examples (bottom to top)
physiological needs (adequate pay, subsidised meals, accomodation)
Safety and security (job security, safe working conditions)
Love and belonging (teamwork, good communication, social facilities)
Esteem (praise for doing good work, awards, rewards for achievement)
Self actualisation (opportunities to be challenged, be reactive, solve problems and make decisions)
