What is synaptic transmission ?
the process where neurones pass messages to other neurones or muscles by releasing special chemicals known as neurotransmitters into tiny gaps between dendrites - these are synapses
How does synaptic transmission happen ?
it happens by releasing chemicals called neurotransmitters into synapses, these chemicals are picked up at receptor sites on the next neurone
What is excitation ?
excitatory neurotransmitters generally increase the positive charge of the next neurone, making it more likely to fire
What is inhibition ?
inhibitory neurotransmitters generally increase the negative charge of the next neurone, making it less likely to fire
