Airborne Precautions
used for patients known or suspected to be infected with pathogens transmitted by airborne droplet nuclei.
Amplitude
Intensity either loud or soft
Auscultation
Listening to sounds perched by the body, such as the heart and blood vessels and the lungs and abdomen.
Bell
Deep, low, cup like shape.
Best for soft, low pitched sounds such as extra heart sounds or murmurs.
Contact Precautions
Practices used to prevent spread of disease by direct contact such as C.Diff.
Diaphragm
Used most one because its flat edge is best for high pitched sounds such as breath, bowel, and nor,l heart sounds.
Droplet Precautions
For patients who have an infection spread y close respiratory contact like influenza or pertussis.
Dull
soft, muffled, moderate to high-pitched sound of short duration; found with dense, fluid-filled tissue (liver)
Duration
the length of time that something continues or lasts
Inspection
Is a concentrated watching. its up close, careful scrutiny. First look at individual then each body system.
Palpation
Follows after inspection and assess texture, temp, moisture, organ location/size, swelling, vibrations, rigidity, crepitation, presence of lumps or masses, and presence of tenderness or pain.
Percussion
tapping on a surface in sharp strokes to determine the difference in the density of the underlying structure
Pitch
(or frequency) the number of vibrations (or cycles) per second of a note
Quality
(or timbre) a subjective difference in a sound as a result of the sound's distinctive overtones
Resonant
Medium- loud, low pitched, quality is clear and hollow, durations is moderate, and its over normal lung tissue.
Standard Precautions
Based on the principle that all blood, bodily fluids, secretions, expressions (except sweat), not intact skin, and mucous membranes may contain transmissible infectious agents.
transmission-based precautions
Additional precautions for specific infection risks.
Tympany
Loud, high pitched, musical and drum like, sustained the longest, and over the stomach or intestine.
