Star
An extremely hot sphere of gas that emits light.
Light-year
The distance light travels in one year.
Galaxy
A group of billions of stars.
Universe
The name for the whole of space and everything in it.
The Sun
A star that is bright and hot, appearing yellow or orange at times due to Earth's atmosphere.
Light Pollution
Background light in towns and cities that makes it difficult to see stars.
Nuclear Reactions
Processes in stars that create high temperatures and light.
Proxima Centauri
The nearest star to Earth, located 4.2 light-years away.
Milky Way
The galaxy that contains our solar system, made up of billions of stars.
Alpha Centauri System
A small group of stars that includes Proxima Centauri, the closest star to Earth.
