Allusion
a direct or indirect reference to the bible, person, place, event, or film that is a well-known cultural idea.
Camera angle
the POV or perspective chosen from which to photograph a subject. the angles include, front, behind,side, top, high, low, straight, or eye level, etc…
Costume
refers to the garments or clothing worn but actors
dialogue
any spoken lines in a film by actor
epiphany
a moment of sudden spiritual insight for the protagonist, usually happening after or before the climax
flashback
a technique that alters the natural order of the narritvie
Flash-forward
opposite of flashback, projected to a future time that is beyond present time
foil
a role that is used for personality compare or contrast, to show a highlight of one character trait
Juxtaposition
the contiguous positioning of 2 images,characters, or objects to compare and contrast them or establish a relationship between them
mise en scene
a french term for “staging” or “putting into the scene or shot” all the elements placed by the director before the camera
montage
french word for “editing” or “putting together” editing scenes like a collage consisting of a series of short shots that are rapidly pout together
non diegetic score
commentary/non-literal sound any sound not from the films world
opening credits
intro to the film, introducing members of production and sets the scene for what movie you are about to watch
stock character
a minor character whose actions are completely predictable and stereotypical for who they are and what they do
subtext
deeper meaning of someones actions or words.
