bending of a joint or a limb

extension

extending your arm, knee, etc

abduction

moving a limb away from your body

adduction

moving a limb towards your body

circumduction

turning a body part (only occurs at hip and shoulder)

supination

rotating out/up (forearm rotates so palm of hand faces upwards)

pronation

body part turns inward (forearm rotates so palm is facing down)

dorsiflexion

upward movement of the foot at the ankle joing

plantar flexion

downward movement of the foot at the joint

inversion

how you rolled your ankle (out)

eversion

opposite of how you rolled your ankle

protraction

shoulders forward

retraction

shoulders back

depression

shoulders down

elevation

shoulders up

muscle fiber cell

cell where muscle contraction occurs

myofibril

located in a muscle fiber. when a myofibril shortens, so does the muscle fiber.

sarcomere

located in a myofibril, contains sctin and myosin, functional unit of contraction
