Formal Speech Style
The speech style used in formal situations that is prepared in advance, features clear pronunciation, precise vocabulary, complex sentence structures, cohesive organization, and background information; typically involves little to no audience participation and is used in sermons, speeches, announcements, and academic/business writing.
One-way Communication
A feature of formal speech where there is little or no listener participation; the speaker delivers predetermined content.
Planned Utterances
In formal speech, the speaker pre-plans what to say, ensuring the message is organized and coherent.
Clear Pronunciation
In formal speech, pronunciation is very clear to ensure understanding and professionalism.
Complex Sentence Structures
Formal speech uses sentence structures that are more complex and varied.
Formal Vocabulary
The use of extensive and technical vocabulary appropriate to formal contexts.

Frozen Speech Style

Language characteristic of the Frozen Style; uses fixed, symbolic, or historical expressions that are rarely altered.

Fixed phrases commonly used in Frozen Style that are rarely or never changed.

Frozen style language is often dictated by legal, cultural, or ritual rules and traditions.
