Genetic Maps
Diagrams that show the positions of genes (loci) in relation to each other along chromosomes.
Linkage
The tendency of genes on the same chromosome to be inherited together.
Recombination Frequency (RF)
The percentage of recombinant offspring produced in a genetic cross, used to measure genetic linkage.
Test-Cross
Crossing a heterozygous individual with a homozygous recessive individual to determine the genotype of the heterozygote.
Three Point Test Crosses
Genetic crosses that involve three loci, providing a faster and more accurate method for mapping genes than two-point crosses.
CentiMorgan (cM)
A unit of genetic distance equivalent to a 1% recombination frequency.
Interference
The phenomenon where the occurrence of one crossover event reduces the likelihood of another crossover nearby.
Independent Assortment
The principle that genes for different traits assort independently of one another in the formation of gametes.
Complete Linkage
When two genes are located very close together on the same chromosome, with no recombination occurring between them.
Coupling Phase
A configuration where the two dominant or two recessive alleles are inherited together.
