Dot-Matrix Printer
A type of impact printer that creates output by using a matrix of pins that press against a ribbon to mark the paper.
Impact Printer
A printer that uses mechanical force to transfer ink onto the page, such as dot-matrix printers.
Print Head
The component of a printer that contains pins which push ink against the paper to create text or images.
Printer Ribbon
A long piece of inked material used in impact printers that transfers ink onto the paper when struck by the print head pins.
Tractor Feed
A mechanism that pulls paper through a printer using holes on the sides of the paper that fit onto tractor feed rollers.
Carbon Copies
Copies created by using carbon paper or multi-part paper, allowing multiple outputs with a single pass of the printer.
Multi-Part Paper
Paper designed to produce multiple copies in one pass through the printer, often using micro-encapsulated ink.
Green Bar Paper
A type of tractor paper that features green stripes, historically used for printing data outputs in IT environments.
Heat Sink
A component in dot-matrix printers that helps dissipate heat generated by the print head during operation.
Noise Level
A characteristic of dot-matrix printers; they are relatively noisy compared to other modern printers, which can be disruptive in quiet environments.
