Analogy

Comparison of two similar but different things, usually to clarify an action or a relationship

Anaphora

The repetition of the same word or groups of words at the beginning of successive causes

Anecdote

A short, simple narrative of an incident; often used for humorous effect or to make a point

Annotation

Explanatory notes added to a text to explain, cite sources, or give bibliographical data

Connotation

Implied or suggested meaning of a word because of its association in the readers mind

Diction

Word choice intended to convey a certain effect

Foreshadowing

Do use of hints or clues in a narrative to suggest future actions

Inference

A conclusion one can draw from the presented details

Metonymy

A figure of speech that uses the name of an object, person, or idea to represent something with which it is associated

Mood

The atmosphere or dominant emotion in a literary work

Oxymoron

A form a paradox that combines a pair of opposite terms into a single, unusual expression

Parallelism

A grammatical or structural similarity between sentences or parts of speech

Parody

I work that ridicules the style of another work by imitating and exaggerating it elements

Personification

The giving of inanimate objects, or abstract ideas human characteristics

Repetition

A device in which words, sounds, and ideas are use more, than once to enhance rhythm and to create emphasis
