Tuckman’s Model of Group Development
A theoretical framework outlining stages of group development including Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing.
Forming (Stage 1)
The initial stage where group members come together and begin to understand their role.
Storming (Stage 2)
The stage where conflicts arise as group members challenge each other’s ideas and roles.
Norming (Stage 3)
The stage where group members establish norms and develop a commitment to group goals.
Performing (Stage 4)
The stage where the group effectively works toward achieving their goals, demonstrating task and social cohesion.
Group Cohesion
The degree to which group members stick together and remain united in pursuit of common goals.
Task Cohesion
The extent to which group members collaborate and focus on achieving the goals of the group.
Social Cohesion
The connections and bonds between group members that foster collaboration and trust.
Self-confidence
An individual's belief in their ability to execute a task successfully.
Self-efficacy
The belief in one’s abilities, which changes based on experiences and situations.
Self-belief
The conviction in oneself that fosters motivation and confidence.
Self Talk
The internal dialogue individuals have with themselves, which can be motivational or instructional.
Positive Self-talk
Encouragement or instructional dialogue within oneself that can enhance performance.
Mental Imagery
The process of visualizing a successful performance, engaging multiple senses for effective rehearsal.
Internal Imagery
Imagining a skill from the perspective of the performer.
External Imagery
Observing one’s performance as if viewed by an external observer.
