Give the equation for calculating changes in thermal energy. (and units)

changes in thermal energy = mass x specific heat capacity x temperature change

Energy change = Joules

Mass = in Kg

Specific heat capacity = J/Kg cELCIUS

Temperature change = degrees Celsius

If a material gains a lot of energy in there thermal energy store to warm up….

… means that they also transfer lots of energy when they cool down, as they’re able to ‘store’ a lot of energy

3
New cards

What is meant by ‘specific heat capacity’?

The specific heat capacity of a substance is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 Kg of the substance by 1 degree Celsius.
