Spreads through skin to skin contact and is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide

High-risk types can cause genital warts and is linked to several types of cancer (ex. cervical, anal, oral, and throat).

Symptoms include fever and fatigue and can be transmitted through kissing, sharing utensils, direct contact with sores/blisters, or sex

Genital herpes primarily causing painful sores and blisters in the genital area and can also infect mouth
Chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis-bacteria)
A common sexually transmitted infection among 15-24 years old that can be transmitted through vaginal, oral, or anal sex.

Leads to pelvic inflammatory disease.
Females have infertility and ectopic pregnancy (when a fertilized egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes.)
Males have infertility in epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis).

AKA Clap/drip. Doesn’t often cause symptoms. Can be transmitted through vaginal, oral, anal, sex and to babies.

Symptoms in males include white/yellow/green penile discharge, testicular pain and swelling, pain in urination

Syphilis (Treponema pallidum - bacteria)
Can be transmitted through sex, pregnancy, and blood transfusion. Symptoms include painless sore at the site of infection, fever, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and sore throat. Damages heart, brain, and other organs.
Yeast Infection (Candida albicans - fungi)
Not a primary STI. However, it can be transmitted through sex and can be caused by poor hygiene. It is treatable.

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
A virus that attacks the immune system, specifically CD4 white blood cells, making it difficult for the body to fight infections. It can be transmitted through contact to semen, vaginal, rectal, or breast milk which can also affect the baby.
Acute HIV Stage
Within 2-4 weeks. About 70% of infected people can have flu-like symptoms.
Chronic HIV Stage
Within 10-15 years. The virus multiplies in a low rate.
Antiretro Virals (ART)
Prevent HIV from spreading until viral load is 0. Once achieved, it is undetectable and untransmissible.
