Central policy management
A system where a single source manages network operation rules and automates device configurations.
Transport agnostic
The ability of an overlay network to utilize any available forwarding fabric like Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular.
Zero-touch provisioning
An automated configuration process for new nodes that eliminates the need for manual setup by technicians.
Application aware
Nodes that can identify traffic types (voice, video, IoT) and reserve necessary bandwidth accordingly.
Application layer
This layer applies business logic for traffic prioritization and security policies, including segmentation and ACLs.
Infrastructure layer
The layer containing devices that perform traffic forwarding, switching, routing, and enforcing security policies.
Software-defined networking (SDN)
A model that allows automation and efficient provisioning of networks and server instances.
Northbound API
The interface between the application and control layers in the SDN architecture.
Southbound API
The interface between the SDN controller and infrastructure devices.
Management Plane
A plane that interfaces with the operational plane for monitoring traffic conditions and network status.
