What is the title of 1.1?
Is Augustine's teachings on the fall wrong?
1.1= What is the message of Genesis 1-2?
God created a perfect world and made humans the pinnacle of his creation, "image and likeness". Adam and Eve had a harmonious relationship with each other and God and all God asked of them was to not eat the fruit and be stewards to his creation. They lived almost like friends, no lust.
1.1= what did Augustine think of of the relationship between Adam and Eve shows us?
He thought it showed that there was once perfect harmony between human will, human body and reason.
He thought the human will was a balance between the powers of self-love and generous give in the Garden.
1.1= Account of the Fall in Genesis 3
Serpent convinces Eve to eat an apple and she gives some to Adam. They both become aware of their nudity and God realises what they did. God punishes women by having childbirth pains and to be ruled by their husbands, and men having to work on crops. God banishes Adam and Eve from Eden.
1.1= Augustine view on the fall
Thought it was a turning point for humanity, perfection of Eden was lost and harmony between body/will was imbalanced. All of humanity is a product of this moment. Augustine views their new awareness of being nude as a sign the body is no longer in harmony because it is nakedness that drives lust- when selfish overtakes generous love.
