MIcroscope parts and functions Power of magnification
Eyepiece/Ocular
Where you look into the microscope.
Body Tube
Light passes from the objective lens to the eyepiece through this part of the microscope. It separates the objective and the eyepiece
Nosepiece
The objective lenses are mounted on this part of the microscope. It works like a Lazy Susan.
Nosepiece
Holds the objectives and can be rotated to change the magnification
Coarse Adjustment Knob
You begin your focusing with this large knob of the microscope. Moves the stage up and down for focusing
Fine Adjustment Knob
Once you have focused your image, use this to fine tune the image. even farther. Moves the stage slightly to sharpen the image
Stageclips
These two things keep the slide from moving around on the stage. Holds the slide in place
Aperture
The opening in the stage that allows light through.
Diaphragm
This disk under the stage controls the amount of light that passes through the aperture. Regulates the amount of light passing through the stage opening
Slide
This is a thin piece of glass where you place your specimen.
Arm
This part supports the entire upper portion of the microscope and connects the upper and lower areas.
Lamp
This provides light so that it is easier to see the object that you are viewing. It projects light through the specimen making it visible
Legs
The base is sometimes divided into 2 parts called _____________. The lamp is located between these two things.
Objective Lenses
There may be two or three of these mounted on the nosepiece. Each one magnifies a different power.
Base
The support at the bottom of the microscope that holds it up.
Supports the microscope
Stage
Where the slide is placed for viewing.
Coarse
You must focus with the ____________ adjustment knob first.
base
You carry the microscope holding the arm and the _____________.
cord
This part must be held when carrying the microscope and must not be dangling off the counter/table when the microscope is in use.
diaphragm and objective lens
Which 2 parts need to be lined up with the aperture so light can pass through them up to your eye?
fine
When using the high power objective lens, only focus with the __________ adjustment knob.
power of magnification
how much larger the image appears
power of magnification formula
objective lens X eyepiece magnification
