Percent of Consonants Correct-Revised (PCC-R)
A measurement of the accuracy in which a client produces the sounds of their language, developed by Shriberg et al. in 1982 and revised in 1997.
PCC Measurement
An assessment tool that has a strong positive correlation with speech intelligibility and is used for evaluating speech disorders in young children.
Criterion Referenced Measurement
A type of assessment that evaluates performance against a predetermined standard or criterion.
Correct Consonants
Consonant sounds that are produced accurately by the child compared to target productions.
Incorrect Consonants
Consonant sounds that are either substituted, omitted, or distorted when produced by the child.
Mild Impairment
A classification of speech impairment where the Percent of Consonants Correct (PCC) is between 85-99%.
Moderate Impairment
A classification of speech impairment where the PCC is between 65-84%.
Moderately Severe Impairment
A classification of speech impairment where the PCC is between 50-64%.
Severe Impairment
A classification of speech impairment where the PCC is less than 50%.
PCC Calculation
To calculate PCC, divide the total number of correct consonant phonemes by the total consonants and multiply by 100.
Transcription
The process of accurately writing down the speech productions of a child alongside their target productions.
Speech Sample Duration
The length of a speech sample required for PCC calculation, typically around 5 minutes.
