What is a government?
A decision-making system.
What is a bill?
An idea for a law.
What does a political spectrum provide?
A way to describe and separate between political views, ideologies, and political parties.
What is a dictatorship?
Government where one person rules and the army follows.
What is fascism?
Rigid one-party dictatorship where opponents are eliminated and the state controls everything.
What is communism?
An idea where everyone shares everything.
What is liberalism?
People choose their leaders and have the freedom to be themselves and speak freely.
What is a constitutional monarchy?
The constitution and people in power rule, but a monarchy is the head of state.
What is a theocracy?
A government ruled by religious leaders, where laws follow religious beliefs.
What is a monarchy?
Power is inherited and passed down the royal family line (hereditary).
What type of decisions does the Federal government make?
Decisions for all Canadians (Located in Ottawa)
What type of decisions does the Provincial government make?
Major Decisions for all Ontarians (Located in Toronto - Queen Park)
What type of decisions does the Municipal government make?
Major decisions for all residents (Located in Caledon)
What does the Executive branch do?
Introduces ideas for laws.
What does the Legislative branch do?
Debates and makes laws.
What does the Judicial branch do?
Interprets and enforces laws.
What are the responsibilities of the Federal government?
National defense, immigration, criminal law, national trade, Canada Post, citizenship.
What are the responsibilities of the Provincial government?
Education, healthcare, highways, licenses, provincial parks.
What are the responsibilities of the Municipal government?
Local police, fire services, local roads, public transit, water, and waste management.
What does the Executive branch do?
Carries out laws.
Who is the leader of the Executive branch?
Prime Minister (Canada).
What does the Legislative branch do?
Makes laws.
Who is the leader of the Legislative branch?
Speaker of the House or Parliament.
What does the Judicial branch do?
Interprets laws.
Who is the leader of the Judicial branch?
Chief Justice or Supreme Court Chief Judge.
What makes up the Executive branch?
Prime minister, cabinets, premiers, mayor.
What makes up the Legislative branch?
Parliament, HOC, Senate, Legislative assembly, MPPS, councilors.
What makes up the Judicial branch?
Supreme court, federal court, tax.
