-cysts not at birth → slowly develo
-kidney function normal until 40-50yrs
What is urinary tract obstruction?
obstructions→ progress to renal atrophy

- urinary statis (can’t empty urine properly)

- stone formation
What is hydronephrosis?
Obstruction of urinary tract
→ can’t get rid of fluid
→ fluid backs up -→ increase pressure
→ dilation of renal pelvis + calyces
→ kidney tissue dmg + atrophy
