A religious group who wanted to purify the Church of England. They came to America for religious freedom and settled Massachusetts Bay.
Why did England come to the new world?
The came for wealth and religious freedom.

At first, English people were friendly to the natives for trading, but greed led to conflicts between them.
How was the English government in the new world?
England permitted them to set up their own governments, hold meetings, and tax themselves as long as the didn't go against the king.

They wanted to establish fur trade.

Describe the French government.
It was a royal rule which meant the king made all the decisions. Later, Louisiana became a proprietary colony where one ruler appointed by the king ruled the land. Citizens had no political rights.
Describe the relationship between the French and the natives.
The French tried to convert the natives to Catholicism. They also became allies with the natives which helped with the fur trading and wars with Britain.

They wanted more riches especially gold.

They settled in the middle f the United States in the Louisiana Territory.

The Spanish settled in southern United States and Mexico.

Catholics only. Protestants were persecuted and driven out.

They were governed by viceroys (representative for the king). Settlers had to obey the laws and couldn't make their own.

Missions were formed to convert them to Christianity. Soldiers wanted to kill them. Spain was the first to use them as slaves in mines and plantations.
