What are goals?
The things we want to achieve in life. They are plans and aims, requiring active steps to be achieved.
What does SMART stand for when setting goals?
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Based
What are the three types of goals?
Short-term, medium-term, and long-term
What are the five steps for planning and goal setting?
Write down your goal, check if it is a SMART goal, Make an Action plan, Do It and Evaluate if you have achieved your goal
What are the steps in the problem-solving process?
Explain the problem, gather information, list possible solutions, make a table of problems and solutions, think the effects of each solution and choose the best solution
What are values?
The principals you think are important in life. Influences decisions, goals, and priorities.
What are the different types of relationships?
Family, casual, friends, formal, and romantic.
What qualities define good relationships?
Unselfishness, caring, mutual respect, ability to communicate, accepting people as they are, sympathetic, good listener, supportive, and able to work as a team
What is power in relationships?
Having control over something or someone; relationships where one person may have power over another.
What is gender stereotyping?
Thinking someone behaves a certain way because of their gender.
What are the types of qualifications that can be obtained through higher education?
Higher certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree
What are FET colleges?
FET colleges aim to provide further education to as many people as possible. Vocational or occupational training in a specific field
What are the three bands in the South African education system?
General Education, Further Education and Training, Higher Education
What are the attributes of FET Colleges
FET training can only be completed by people over the age of sixteen, colleges offer courses tailored to meet the needs of the potential employer and a wide range of fields and courses are offered
Which industries are supported by FET colleges?
Agriculture, Business, Commerce, Management, Education, Training and development, Engineering, Manufacturing and technology, Services, Building construction, Security

What are the NSC subject requirements?
Learners study at least 7 subjects - 4 compulsory and at least 3 electives
What are the compulsory NSC subjects?
Two official languages, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation
What are acceptable additional elective subjects for NSC?
Accounting, Agricultural Management Practices, Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Technology, Art
What are the minimum requirements to qualify for entry into further study at the Higher Certificate level?
Pass the NSC, Meet the language requirement for further study
What is NSFAS?
SA's only public student loan scheme which helps academically deserving and financial needy students
What is public participation?
To be involved with others in doing something; to take part in an activity or an event
How does one participate publicly?
Stand for elections, Attend community meetings, Join civil/ political organizations , Vote in elections, Pay taxes, Protest and petition
What is good governance?
Allows participation and provides feedback to the people, Is transparent ( is open to the public and does not try to hide its actions ), Delivers basic human rights
What is proportional representation?
Parties get a certain number of seats in parliament according to the percentage of votes they get in an election
What is constituency-based representation?
Country is divided in voting areas, called constituencies. A constituency is represented by one member of a party’s choice.
What defines the rule of law?
A government that is accountable, An absence of corruption, Security, order and fundamental rights
What is the role of sport in nation building?
Sport in one of the best ways to contribute to nation building
What does a sports code of conduct aim to achieve?
Get rid of violent and harmful actions at recreation and sports facilities, Ensure a positive, safe and uplifting environment for spectators
How can sport support nation building?
Racism should be elimated from sport, relationships build and international sports contribute to unity
How does learning take place?
The brain is designed to learn, the more active the brain is, the stronger the connections between neurons become
What are left and right brain learning preferences?
Left Hemisphere learns from part to whole, is stimulated by function, phonetic reader, likes words, etc; Right Hemisphere learns whole first, then parts learns best by appearance, whole language reader, wants pictures, etc.
What does SQ3R stand for (as a study method)?
Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review
What does it mean to analyse in a question?
Break up into separate parts and discuss, examine, interpret, explore and investigate each part. Say how each part is important. Explain how the parts are linked or related
What does it mean to Assess in a question?
Judge ord estimate the nature, quality or value of something
What does it mean to Compare in a question?
Look at two or more things Identify Similarities and differences.
What does it mean to Contrast in a question?
Look at two or more things Focus on the differences
What does it mean to Explain in a question?
Give details, describe, make clear, make it understandable.
What are the qualities of an Umpire/Referee?
Know and respect the rules of the game, Understand how to use hand signals correctly, Apply rules consistently, Make fair judgements
What are the environmental health concerns?
The use of harmful substances in food production and inhumane farming methods
What are the environmental hazards?
Soil erosion, Pollution ( air, water and land ) ,Radiation, Floods, Fires
How does substance use lead to illness from food use?
Antibiotics lead to resistance, Hormones to deforned calves, animal by products to disease
What is the impact of overfishing?
Whole species of fish can disappear, fish not suitable is thrown away and there are food shortages
What is the impact of depletion of land?
Farmers plant the same type of crops on the same piece of land, year after year , depleting the soil and also mining pollutues
What is climate change?
It is a change in temperature and weather patterns. Gases, such as carbon dioxide, build up in the atmosphere and trap the sun’s heat.
How can we mitigate the effects of climate change?
Use motor cars less/use public transport, do not litter, recycle paper, turn of the tap/lights
What is a healthly lifestyle choice?
When there is balance and harmony between the PHYSICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL And SPIRITUAL aspects of life
What are the socio-economic environment factors?
Lack of literacy, low or very high income, poor neighbourhood, no access to medical care, peer pressure, crime and substance abuse
How do Parents have a positive influence on their Children's lifestyle choices?
Support, encourage and educate, warn about abuse, role models.
What is a CV?
A CV is a curriculum vitae which is a summary of your career experience, qualifications, skills and abilities
What are the panel interview hints?
Direct your attention to each person on the panel, expect to repeat yourself, thank the participants
What are ethics?
Ethics are sets of moral principles or rules of behaviour relating to right and wrong actions
Give examples or appropriate behavior in the work place?
Ethical behavior is acting honestly integrity, respect and non discrminiation
What is the Expectancy and reality of the Job world?
Study adeqaute time, expect to start at the bottom and persevere
Define Sucess and Satisfaction
Success means to achieve your goals. Satisfaction means to be happy and pleased with what you have achieved.
What is a Suitability Audit?
A quiz, questionnaire or test to assess how suitable you are for the job / career / career field. It answers the questions : Do you meet the requirements ? Does your personality match the job / career ?
