Prepositions
Words that relate a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence.
The Golden Preposition Rule
A preposition is followed by a noun and NEVER followed by a verb.

A single prepositional unit made up of two or more words, acting as one in a sentence.
Phrasal Prepositions
A combination of a verb with a preposition or adverb to indicate direction, position, or time.

Prepositions that describe motion from one place to another.
Prepositions of Time
Prepositions that indicate time relationships, such as specific times, days, or periods.
At (Usage)
Used with home and places of study/work, e.g., at home, at school.
In (Usage)
Used with towns and countries, e.g., in Milan, in Italy.
On (Usage)
Used with dates and days, e.g., on 5 May, on Thursday.
Between
A preposition used to indicate something is in the space separating two things.
Across
A preposition indicating movement from one side to another.
Through
A preposition indicating movement in one side and out of the other.
By
Used to mean ‘not later than’ in the context of deadlines.
For
Used to indicate a duration of time, e.g., for an hour.
In front of
A compound preposition indicating position ahead of something.
Look after
A phrasal preposition meaning to take care of someone or something.
Run into
A phrasal preposition meaning to meet someone unexpectedly.
Stand by
A phrasal preposition meaning to support someone or something.
Look forward to
A phrasal preposition expressing anticipation for an event.
