Is iad brón, frustrachas agus éadóchas na mothúcháin a mhúsclaíonn an dán seo ionam.
Sorrow, frustration and despair are the feelings this poem evokes in me.
Cuireann sé brón orm an tíogar a shamhlú i ngéibheann sa sú, agus cuireann sé brón an domhain orm an file a shamhlú agus í tinn.
It makes me sad to imagine a tiger in captivity in the zoo and it saddens me to imagine the poet being sick
Is léir go bhfuil sí in umar na haimléise.
It is clear she is in the depths of despair
Tá a misneach caillte aici agus tá uirthi a crá pearsanta a láimhsiú léi féin.
She has lost hope and she has to handle her personal torment on her own.
Tagann daoine chun féachaint uirthi, ach ní féidir leo cabhrú léi.
People come to see her but they can't help her
Ní féidir leo í a ligean saor.
They can't free her
Mothaíonn an file go bhfuil sí teanntaithe ina saol.
The poet feels she is trapped in her life
Níl bealach éalaithe aici, ar an drochuair.
Unfortunately, she has no escape
Cruthaíonn an file atmaisféar an éadóchais go paiteanta.
The poet masterfully creates an atmosphere of despair
Tá trua ag an léitheoir don ainmhí, agus don fhile.
The reader has pity for the animal and for the poet
