a part an individual plays in life that carries with it expectations of how to behave in different situations
Status
The importance of an individual's position in the group, as perceived by group members
Social Influence
the effects of the presence or actions of others (either real or imagined) on ABCs (Affect, Behaviour, Cognition)
Power
Ability to control / influence the ABCs of another person or group

Reward power
Ability to provide a desired consequence
Coercive Power
Ability to provide an unpleasant consequence
Legitimate power
Power is given by a higher authority and may be due to role or position
Referent Power
Power from others' desire to relate to the person
Expert power
Power due to skills and depth of knowledge
Informational Power
Having knowledge that others desire, unavailable elsewhere
