Hepatitis B (Hep B)
Passed through blood or bodily fluids; many adults with Hep B are symptomatic; increased chance of long-term liver damage the younger a person contracts it.
Rotavirus (RV)
Prior to vaccine, majority of gastroenteritis cases in young children by Rotavirus; passed through oral-fecal route.
Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP)
Administered < 7 years of age; doses at 2, 4, 6, 18 (second dose), 4yo.
Haemophilus Influenzae type B (HiB)
Causes meningitis, epiglottitis, and infective arthritis; not routinely given to children over 5 years of age.
Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV)
Causes pneumonia, sepsis, meningitis, and otitis media; administered at 2 months, 4, 6, 12.
Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV)
Administered at 2 m, 4, 6, 4-6yo; 'Wild Polio' eliminated in the US; any travel outside of US recommended to receive vaccine.
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
Live vaccine; give on same day as other live vaccines or separate by 28 days; administered at 12, 4-6yo.
Varicella (Chickenpox)
Live vaccine; give on same day as other live vaccines or separate by 28 days; administered at 12, 4-6yo.
Hepatitis A (Hep A)
Spread through close physical contact; eating or drinking contaminated food or water; administered at 12, 18 (second dose).
Meningitis (MenACWY)
Spread through direct contact or air droplets; develops quickly, especially in healthy adolescents and adults; high morbidity and mortality; military recruits and students living in campus housing.
Meningitis (MenB)
Contracted during vaginal or anal sexual contact; most common STD (CDC in 2022); genital warts -> cancer (highest in women); administered at 16yo.
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
Contracted during vaginal or anal sexual contact; most common STD (CDC in 2022); genital warts -> cancer (highest in women); administered at 11yo (2 doses recommended).
Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDaP)
11yo booster; similar to DTaP, but slightly different formulation due to changing immune system.
