Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI)
A set of nutrient intake values for healthy people in the United States and Canada.
Estimated Average Requirements (EAR)
The average daily nutrient intake level estimated to meet the requirements of half the healthy individuals in a particular life stage and gender group.
Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA)
The average daily dietary intake level sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements of nearly all (97-98%) healthy individuals.
Adequate Intakes (AI)
A recommended average daily nutrient intake level based on observed or experimentally determined estimates of nutrient intake by a group of healthy people.
Tolerable Upper Intake Levels (UL)
The maximum daily intake unlikely to cause harmful effects for most individuals in the general population.
Estimated Energy Requirement (EER)
The average energy intake to maintain energy balance, factoring in healthy body weight and physical activity.
Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges (AMDR)
Ranges of intake for carbohydrates, fats, and proteins expressed as a percentage of total energy intake.
Risk Factors
Attributes or exposures that increase the likelihood of developing a chronic disease.
Nutrient Deficiencies
Insufficient intake of essential nutrients leading to health problems.
Energy Balance
The state achieved when the calories consumed through food and beverage match the calories expended through activity and bodily functions.
