Powers of Congress
The authority granted to Congress to lay and collect taxes, borrow money, regulate commerce, and more.
Senate
The upper chamber of Congress, elected for 6-year terms, representing whole states.
House of Representatives
The lower chamber of Congress, elected for 2-year terms, representing smaller electoral districts.
Commander in Chief
A role of the president to oversee the military and command armed forces.
Public Good
The intended benefit or welfare of the people in society.
Industrial Revolution
A period that concentrated power among the wealthy and increased political corruption.
Electoral College
A body of electors established by the Constitution that formally elects the president and vice president.
Election of 1800
A pivotal election that resulted in a tie between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr, leading to the 12th amendment.
Four Freedoms
The freedoms outlined by FDR: Speech, Worship, from Want, and from Fear.
Primary System
The process by which political parties select their nominees for the presidency through a series of elections.
