How far ahead should you be scanning for hazards?
12 seconds.
You can see how far ahead this is by doing the following:
pull over on a straight piece of road
start counting to 12 as a car passes you
take a note of how far away the car is once you get to 12
What information must you give to a police officer, if asked?
your name, address and date of birth
your driver licence
the name of the vehicle’s owner.
A police officer has the power to arrest you if you don’t give him or her this information.
When behind a large vehicle (busses, trucks, etc) how far back should you be?
Far enough back so that you can see their side mirrors.
What should you do before opening your door to exit your car?
Whenever you exit your car, always open the driver's door using your left hand. This forces you to turn your shoulder and see any oncoming traffic/bicycles out of your peripheral vision.
What is a road?
A road can include any places the public has access to. For example, beaches, riverbeds, carparks, fields, or driveways that are open to the street.
