Arguing a thesis

==Micro paragraphs arguments==

  • claim

  • evidence/data

  • warrant

  • highlight moments from the entry point (particular spot for the body paragraphs)

  • highlight moments in the conversation

  • highlight things that affect your argument

    • Claim: why do we need to look at this evidence for our arguments?

    • evidence: the evidence we need to look at

    • warrant: what meaning should we get out of the evidence?

ENTRY POINT: how are they going to argue that side of the argument, use it throughout the paper

  • Use the entry point to develop the claims (e.i, use a study to argue the points)

==Macro Thesis arguments==

  • Thesis

  • Claims

  • Warrant

  • Show how the entry point matters for the arguments

  • show how the accumulated evidence proves the arguments

  • show the importance or impact of the argument

    • Thesis: divide the conversation into a debate

    • Claim: “this” is why you should believe my side of the debate

    • Warrant: “this” is why you should care about my side of the debate

  • how the micro arguments support the argument, not just the entry point

==Macro arguments==

  • Found in transitions

  • uses micro arguments as evidence

  • examines the pattern of development
