Enuresis
Uncontrolled or unintentional urination that occurs after the age at which bladder control is typically achieved.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
An infection in any portion of the urinary tract.
Primary Enuresis
When a child has never been free of bed-wetting for any extended period of time.
Secondary Enuresis
When a child starts bed-wetting after having achieved urinary control.
Oliguria
Decreased urine output, which can occur in conditions like acute glomerulonephritis.
Hypertension
High blood pressure, which can be a complication of renal disorders such as acute glomerulonephritis.
Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS)
An acute renal disease characterized by acute renal failure, hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia.
Nephrotic Syndrome
A condition resulting from alterations in the glomerular membrane allowing proteins to pass into the urine.
Antidiuretic Hormone (Desmopressin)
A medication that reduces the volume of urine and is used to treat primary nocturnal enuresis.
Cystitis
Inflammation of the bladder, often associated with urinary tract infections.
Urosepsis
A bacterial illness that occurs when an infection in the urinary tract spreads into the bloodstream.
Cryptorchidism
A condition of undescended testes, which may require surgical correction.
Phimosis
Narrowing of the preputial opening of the foreskin, commonly found in infants and young boys.
Bladder Exstrophy
A condition involving the eversion of the posterior bladder through the anterior bladder wall.
Chronic Renal Failure (CRF)
A condition that begins when the diseased kidneys can no longer maintain the normal chemical structure of body fluids.
Bacteriuria
The presence of bacteria in the urine, which can indicate a urinary tract infection.
Fluid Intake Restrictions
Limiting fluid intake, especially in the evening, to manage conditions like enuresis.
Positive Reinforcement
A technique used in the nursing care of children with enuresis to encourage dry nights.
Support Groups
Community support for families and children dealing with chronic health issues.
Antibiotics
Medications used to treat infections, such as UTIs, based on urine culture findings.
