Quasi-experiments

• Like a lab experiment but can’t randomly allocate participants.

• high uncontrolled variables. lack internal validity

Natural experiment

• IV can change since it’s naturally occuring

• Extraneous factors are present and lack internal validity

Field experiment

• Tested in the real world

• Natural behaviour; participants are unaware

• decrease internal validity

Naturalistic observation: convert

• no manipulation of the study

• data collected in a natural environment

• participants are unaware of the observer

Naturalistic observation: non-participant

same as a naturalistic observation but the researcher is not active in the experiment

Naturalistic observation: participant

same as a naturalistic observation but the researcher is actively involved within the community or group they’re studying
