Satire Archetypes
Incongruity: things seem out of place or absurd
Lack of logical plot:ideas or events are out of typical order
Hyperbole (exaggeration) or understatement (oversimplifying)
Thinly developed characters characters are basic and surface level
Irony/Anti-Hero Archetypes
Defies of standard morals or ethics, has obvious flaws.
May do “bad” things for the greater good.
Has an overall negative or unpopular worldview; is typically very pessimistic or cynical.
Has an internal struggle or doubts themself.
Rebels against authority or societal norms, or feels that something is fundamentally wrong in their society
Wants to be “heroic” but sometimes lacks the skills to be one
Often feels trapped or like they’re struggling to escape
Dystopia Definition
A type of satire that portrays a society that is undesirable or frightening, perhaps one where there is suffering or injustice or one that is post-apocalyptic.
Dystopia Archetypes
Loss of Freedom: Loss of independent thought and freedom because of increased surveillance, technology and/or control
Worship of Idol: An authority figure or concept is worshiped by the citizens of the society
Conformity: Citizens are forced to conform to society’s norms/rules
Censorship: Government or authority figures keep information secret or change facts
Survival: Characters must go to the extreme to survive
