Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

Autoimmune disease — unknown origin. Symmetric inflammation of joints, targers hands, feet, and knees. Onset is usually between 35 and 50 years. 1%-3% of the population, more prevalent in women. No cure, managed through drugs and excersise.

Rheumatoid arthritis

This type of arthritis involves destruction of synovial tissues, destruction of cartilage and underlying bone by enzymes, inner lining of the joint capsule becoming inflamed (edema of the synovium), thickening and folding; destruction of the cartilage and sychondral bone, capsule and ligaments distend and rupture, fusion of tissue and loss of mobility.

What kind of arthritis? Eyes that are dry, painful, red, and sensitive to light. Dry mouth and gum infection or irritation, small lumps under the skin at bony areas. Shortness of breath caused by lung inflammation. Nerve damage as a result of inflamed blood vessels. Anemia (lower than normal blood cell count). Joint deformity.
