1st Amendment
Freedom of religion, press, speech and assembly, protecting individual liberties. Can be restricted when they infringe on the rights of others or national security.
2nd Amendment
The right to keep and bear arms, allowing individuals to possess firearms for personal use and defense.
3rd Amendment
Prohibits quartering of soldiers in private homes during peacetime without consent.
4th Amendment
Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures, requiring warrants to be judicially sanctioned. probable cause must be established before a warrant is issued. good faith exceptions may apply in certain situations.
5th Amendment
Protects against self-incrimination and double jeopardy, ensures due process, and includes provisions for eminent domain.
6th Amendment
Right to a speedy trial, jury free from bias, can cross-examine accuser and accused, and can witnesses to testify. Right to a lawyer.
7th Amendment
Right to trial by a jury
8th Amendment
No excessive bail nor cruel and unusual punishment
9th Amendment
People have rights in the Constitution and the government cannot take them away
10th Amendment
powers not designated to the federal government are passed to the states
