Armistice
A formal agreement to stop fighting; not necessarily a permanent peace.

Plan Dalet
A controversial plan devised by the Haganah in March ‘48, while British forces were still in Palestine, to take control of mandatory Palestine once the British removed troops in order to declare a Jewish state and defend its borders.
Fedayeen
Palestinian freedom fighters who commenced attacks on Israeli border settlements to destabilize the state.
Al Nakba
The catastrophe; refers to the 1948 war and its consequences for Palestinians
PLO
Palestinian Liberation Organisation which increased terrorist activity to attract international attention to the plight of the Palestinians
Pan-Arabism
A movement advocating the unification of all Arab countries.
Law of Return
A law passed in 1950 granting all Jews the right to immigrate to Israel and gain citizenship.
Baath Party
A Syrian political party that sponsored and armed Fatah and attempted to divert the Jordan River from Israel.
Fatah
A Palestinian militant organization formed in 1959, sponsored and armed by the Baath Party.
