What is the continuum of conflict resolution?
The line from absolute acceptance of violence to total rejection in conflict resolution.
What does militarism hold?
Violence is natural, acceptable, and at times good to defeat evil.
According to the Just-War Theory, when is violence acceptable?
When all other means of resolving conflict have been exhausted and injustices persist.

What are the three elements of holy wars?
The achievement of a religious goal, authorized by a religious leader, and a spiritual reward for those who take part.
What are the five conditions for holy war according to Francis Bacon?
Spread the faith, retrieve countries that were once Christian, rescue Christians in countries that were once Christian from servitude of infidels, recover and purify consecrated places, and avenge blasphemous acts or cruelties and killings of Christians.
What is pacifism?
Total opposition to acts of violence as a way of solving conflicts; peace can only be achieved through peaceful means.
What does absolute pacifism hold?
That violence is always wrong and violates religious and humanitarian principles.
What does practical pacifism hold?
Nonviolence is a better way to resolve conflicts than violence and points to the wars and bloodshed of the past to make its case.
What are the levels of the spiral of violence?
Injustice itself, violent response to injustice, and forceful crackdown on the violent response.
What does solving conflicts in a pacifist manner entail?
Establishing the truth of both sides in a conflict.
What does Jesus's reign signify according to the Gospel of Peace?
Love of enemies, forgiveness, compassion, elimination of underlying causes of violence, and expanding the term neighbor to include all people.
How did Christian leaders justify the use of force when Christianity became the official religion of the empire?
Ruling a sinful world required the use of force, but under certain conditions.
What are the purposes of the UN?
To maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, cooperate internationally to alleviate problems and promote human rights, and help nations attain their ends.
What are the principles of the UN?
All member countries are equal, must fulfill their obligations, settle disputes peacefully, desist from using force, the UN does not interfere with internal affairs, and countries should assist the UN.
What aspects of nature do social structures and public policies concern?
Land, air, water, animals, plants, and the natural habitat.
What are three ways to diminish waste?
Cut back on waste produced, use reusable or recyclable products, and come up with environmentally sound ways to dispose of or use waste.
What is the objective way to look at man's role as steward of creation?
To care for and sustain the rest of creation.
What are three ways to change personal practices to deal with environmental decay?
Refuse, reuse, recycle.
