An American law that states the Secretary of the Food and Drug Administration shall not approve for use in food any chemical additive found to induce cancer in people or animals.

CLEAN WATER ACT

American legislation that was dedicated to managing and setting standards for industrial dumping into water sources, sewage treatment plants and monitoring agricultural run-off. 

KYOTO PROTOCOL

An international agreement that was written to address measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. No real progress was made, as the US announced it would not commit to it.

COMPREHENSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE, COMPENSATION, AND LIABILITY ACT

An American law designed to protect human health and the natural environment from the potential hazards of waste disposal and reducing the amount of waste generated.

ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT

An American law designed to protect critically imperiled species from extinction as a consequence of economic growth.

CLEAN AIR ACT

American legislation that focused on regulating emissions from power plants and engines.

CITES

An international law in which the aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten the survival of the species in the wild.

SAFE DRINKING WATER ACT

This American law was put into place specifically to set standards for public drinking water. It was amended to provide more support for places like Flint Michigan, that have dangerous levels of lead present.

MONTREAL PROTOCOL

An international agreement that is considered to be a great success.. Provisions include requiring participating nations to phase out ozone depleting chemicals (CFCs).
