Critical Thinking
The disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, and evaluating information to guide belief and action.
Knowledge
The foundational level of learning involving recall of facts, terms, basic concepts, and answers.
Comprehension
The ability to grasp, interpret, and explain the meaning of information; the main focus during the first two quarters.
Application
Using learned material in new and concrete situations; emphasis increases by the third quarter.
Analysis
Breaking information into parts to explore relationships and patterns; paired with application for deeper critical-thinking tasks.
Attitude (in Critical Thinking)
The mindset each individual brings that can determine whether a problem is recognized, missed, or ignored.
Extenuating Circumstances
Unusual, unavoidable events that justify exceptions—e.g., a chronic traffic jam on I-75 does NOT qualify.
Classroom Etiquette
Expected behaviors that promote respect and effective learning, such as punctuality and participation.
Dress Code
Guidelines on appropriate attire, which the class has reportedly followed well.
Student Anxiety
Pre-class nervousness about logistics, instructor personalities, and personal success.
