Position-Time Graph
A graph that shows the position of an object over time. The slope represents velocity.
Labeling a position-time graph
X is time and Y is distance
Velocity
Velocity = Distance/Time
Acceleration
Acceleration = V2 - V1/T2 - T1
Scalar
A quantity that has magnitude only (ex: speed, distance, time)
Vector
A quantity with both direction and magnitude (ex: acceleration, displacement, velocity)
Inertia
An object stays at rest or in uniform motion unless acted on by an unbalanced force
Braking Distance
Braking Distance = KV2
Factors Affecting Braking Distance
Speed and road surface conditions
Total Stopping Distance
The total distance a vehicle travels when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. (Breaking distance + Reaction Distance)
Reaction Distance
Reaction Distance = (Velocity)(Time)
Velocity-Time Graph
A graph that shows the velocity of an object over time. The slope represents acceleration.
Labeling a Velocity-Time graph
X is Time, Y is Velocity
Factors affecting driving abilities
Reaction time, distraction, fatigue, alcohol, drugs, and weather conditions.
