* the redesign of orphanages... using homelike cottages rather than large dormitories.

Advantages of TFC Programs

* More positive adult role models
* Treatment plans are more effective and focused on any age of youth
* the programs provide a sense of family
* less negative community reaction, which helps decrease the stigma of children being labeled in foster care.
* less expensive than residential treatment programs

Disadvantages of TFC Programs

* recruiting well qualified adults both capable and willing to work with children with behavioral problems
* developing and maintaining a reliable referral system...because TFC programs are relatively unknown
* Maintaining a collaborative relationship with the school.
* engaging biological families
* allegations between treatment/foster parents

TFC Programs Delivery: Pre- Placement

* when a youth is referred to foster care: documentation is required....reason for referral, social history, family hx, emotional and mental hx, school records, some children may be excluded if they are viewed as dangerous.

TFC Program Delivery: Intervention

* having an initial treatment plan...long and short term....parents are the major treatment team to display role model appropriateness...crisis intervention services available for the parents and children 24 hours daily.

TFC Program Delivery: Discharge and Follow up

* the goal is to eventually return children back to their biological parents....children stay with foster parents from 1 month to 5 years....after discharged back with the family there is usually no additional after care is provided
