Social Psychology
The scientific study of how people's affect, behaviors, and cognitions are influenced by the presence, real or imagined, of at least one other person.
ABC's of Psychology
A framework that refers to Affective, Behavioral, and Cognitive components that interplay in social psychology.
Research Methods
Strategies used to systematically investigate phenomena in social psychology, including observational studies, correlational studies, and experiments.
Internal Validity
The extent to which a study can demonstrate a causal relationship, minimizing confounding variables.
External Validity
The extent to which the results of a study can be generalized to, or have relevance for, settings or populations outside of the study.
Dependent Variable (DV)
The outcome variable that researchers measure to assess the effect of the independent variable.
Independent Variable (IV)
The variable that is manipulated by the researcher to observe its effect on the dependent variable.
Quasi-Experiments
Research designs that attempt to establish causality without full randomization, often involving participant variables.
Field Experiments
Research conducted in natural settings outside of controlled laboratory environments, which can reduce internal validity.
The Replication Crisis
A challenge in psychology and other fields where studies cannot be replicated, leading to questions about the validity of findings.
