Experiment

Experiments are manipulated by researchers, with an independant variable (the variable that’s changed) and the dependant variable (the variable that’s not changed). Researchers will change the independant variable to see if it changes the dependant variable.

Naturalistic Observation

A research method where researchers observe a subject without any outside interference.

Case study

In-depth research method (interviews) to gain insight on one specific thing about a group or person

Confounding variable

A factor other than the factor being studied that may affect the result

Informed Consent

Giving patients enough knowledge about the study to determine whether or not they wish to participate

Inferential statistics

Statistics that allow a person to come up with a generalized conclusion from the data
