anorexia nervosa (AN)
CxA: severe restriction of energy intake → significantly low body weight
CxB: intense fear of gaining weight of gaining weight or becoming fat
CxC: Distorted body image/undue influence of weight on self worth
restricting type: no binge/purge behaviors
binge-eating/purging type : including compensatory behaviors
Bulimia Nervosa (BN)
CxA: recurrent binge episodes (large food intake + loss of control)
CxB: compensatory behaviors (vomiting, laxatives, fasting, exercise)
CxC: binge/compensate greater than or equal to 1x/week for 3 months
CxD: self evaluation dominated by weight/shape
BInge eating disorder (BED)
CxA: recurrent binge episodes
CxB: binge episodes include greater than of equal to 3 of: rapid eating, fullness, eating when not hungry, secrecy, guilt
CxC: marked distress about binging
CxD: binge greater than or equal to 1x/week for 3 months
key difference: no compensatory behaviors (vs. BN)
avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
CxA: avoidance/restriction due to sensory issues, fear of aversive consequences (e.g., choking), or lack of interest → nutritional deficits/weight loss
key difference: no body image disturbance (vs. AN/BN/BED)
PICA
persistent eating of non-nutritive substances (e.g., chalk, hair) for greater than or equal to 1 month
BDD (body dysmorphic disorder)
focus: preoccupation with specific perceived flaws (e.g., nose shape, skin) unrelated to weight/shape
behaviors: compulsive mirror checking, seeking surgery (vs. food restriction/binging)
