Mathematical Literacy
A subject focused on applying mathematical concepts and skills in everyday contexts.
Range
The difference between the highest and lowest values in a set of data.
Discrete data
Data that can only take certain values and cannot be made more precise (e.g., the number of people visiting a park).
Continuous data
Data that can take any value within a given range (e.g., height, weight).
Dependent variable
The variable that depends on another variable; in a graph, it is usually plotted on the y-axis.
Independent variable
The variable that is manipulated or changed in an experiment; in a graph, it is usually plotted on the x-axis.
Average
The sum of a set of values divided by the number of values; also known as the mean.
Rate
A comparison of two different quantities, often expressed as a fraction or ratio.
Ratio
A relationship between two numbers indicating how many times the first number contains the second.
Modal value
The value that appears most frequently in a data set.
Mean
The sum of all values divided by the count of values.
Median
The middle value in a data set when arranged in ascending or descending order.
Percentage
A fraction expressed as a part of 100.
Survey
A method of collecting information or data from individuals.
Sample size
The number of observations or replicates included in a statistical sample.
Heart rate
The number of heartbeats per minute (bpm), indicating fitness level.
Units of measurement
Standardized quantities used to express and compare dimensions (e.g., liters, meters).
Tally table
A table used to count occurrences of data entries.
Rounding off
The process of reducing the number of digits while trying to keep the number close to the original value.
Graphical representation
Using charts or graphs to visually display data.
