Conservation
The principle that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred.
Efficiency
The percentage of input energy that is converted into useful output energy.
Energy Store
A place where energy is held in a particular form.
Energy Transfer
The process of moving energy from one store to another.
Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE)
Energy stored in an object as a result of its height above the ground.
Joule (J)
The unit of measurement for energy.
Kinetic Energy
Energy possessed by an object due to its motion.
Mass
The quantity of matter in an object, measured in kilograms (kg).
Sankey Diagram
A visual representation that shows the distribution of energy input as useful and wasted energy.
Thermal Energy
Energy related to the temperature of an object, often referred to as heat energy.
Mechanical Transfer
Energy transfer that occurs when a force is applied to move an object.
Electrical Transfer
Energy transfer associated with moving electrical charges through a conductor.
Heating
Energy transfer from a hotter object to a cooler one.
Radiation
Energy transfer through electromagnetic waves or sound waves.
Efficiency Formula
Efficiency = (Useful energy output / Total energy input) x 100%.
