Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
A parametric test using the F distribution to compare two or more means by analyzing variance.
Factor
A categorical explanatory variable with more than two levels.
F ratio
The ratio of variation between groups to variation within groups in ANOVA.
Variation
The extent to which scores in a distribution deviate from the mean.
Variance
The average sum of the squared deviation scores from the mean.
Standard Deviation (SD)
The square root of the variance, indicating how far scores deviate from the mean.
Within-Groups Variation
Deviation of individual sample scores from the mean of the sample.
Between-Groups Variation
Deviation of sample means from the grand mean.
Omnibus F-test
An initial overall analysis in ANOVA to test if there are significant differences among means.
Post Hoc Testing
Tests conducted after ANOVA to determine which specific group differences are significant.
