Oculomotor (CN III)

motor nerve that innervates four of the six extrinsic eye muscles (eye movement, eyelid control, pupil constriction).

Trochlear (CN IV)

motor nerve that innervates on extrinsic eye muscle (superior oblique), causing inferior and lateral movement.

Trigeminal (CN V)

facial sensation and chewing muscles

Abducens (CN VI)

lateral eye movement, innervation of one extrinsic eye muscle (lateral rectus)

Facial (CN VII)

conducts taste sensations, facial expression, tear glands, salivary glands

Vestibulocochlear (CN VIII)

conducts equilibrium and auditory sensations from inner ear to brain.

Glossopharyngeal (CN IX)

receives taste and touch sensations from posterior one-third of the tongue

Vagus (CN X)

visceral functions (heart, lungs, digestion, swallowing, speech)

Accessory (CN XI)

innervates trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles (shrugging and neck rotation)

Hypoglossal (CN XII)

tongue movements (speech, swallowing)
