External Criticism

Internal Criticism
Evaluates the value of facts, sources' character, author's knowledge, and contemporary influences.
Test of Authenticity
Involves using tests to distinguish genuine documents from hoaxes, including anachronistic elements and handwriting analysis.
Content Analysis
Systematic evaluation of primary sources to develop arguments based on personal understanding.
Contextual Analysis
Considers the time, place, and situation in which the primary source was created, including the author's background and authority.
